BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA
UNDER 15. U.S.C. 260a the entire State of Alaska, including all political subdivisions thereof, in each calendar year shall be exempt from advancement of time also known as daylight saving time. During the period of advancement of time the entire State of Alaska, including all political subdivisions thereof, shall observe the standard time otherwise applicable during the time period.
The above language was approved by the State Lt. Governor. The 2006 effort to repeal Daylight Saving Time by Citizen Initiative Petition gathered thousands of signatures statewide using only volunteers. Unfortunately, we did not have the resources to gather enough signatures statewide as required by law in the one year we were allowed. The laws of Alaska are designed to allow only those with significant financial resources to participate in the petition effort in a meaningful way. We did not have the resources to hire profession signature collectors nor pay the entry fees to events during winter months. The Division of Elections could not find evidence of any petition effort in Alaska that has not used paid signature collectors and was successful.
